Device solutions, Ltd. utilizing SchmartBoard for new Meridian

Drives Solutions Ltd., an embedded system design solution provider, has announced a partnership with Schmartboard, Inc. to provide added value for customers by allowing them to more easily add i/o and other hardware features to prototyped embedded integrated circuits.

The new Meridian/P Micro Development Board from device solutions based on Freescale MXS ARM920T.  The product allows one to transfer Desktop skills to the embedded world. The user can use the C # and Visual Studio Tools for developing Meridian/P.  Fast USB connection allows one to download and debug code directly on Meridian/P.

"Drive solutions have made software prototyping end easily," said device solutions CEO Martin Welford.  "Partnering with SchmartBoard makes that hard to be easy for our customers as well."

SchmartBoard has two major advantages over other circuit prototyping system.  First, they are small boards or circuit blocks, which physically connects together with mechanical bridges.  The other advantage is that hand soldering surface mount technology (SMT) components with SchmartBoards, is very lightweight, so users can prototype with most current SMT package types on the market.

"SchmartBoard looks at circuit prototypes from a circuit block perspective," says Neal Greenberg, Schmartboard's VP of Sales and marketing.  "Many development or reference boards from businesses ge engineers all the bells and whistles, a solution for all the possibilities.  This is expensive and unproductive.  Many times an engineer spends his time dissecting a Board to the functions that are really needed.  We believe that the boards should have core hardware, and engineers will then add the circle which blocks the needs rather than to take away what they don't need.  Device solutions has been providing its customers with this advantage by allowing them to physically connect to SchmartBoards to complete their hardware needs. "

SchmartBoard Adds DFN Boards to “EZ” Solder SMT to DIP Lineup

SchmartBoard, a company that makes prototyping electronic circuits easier, has expanded its product offering with a new family of products that support the use of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) components with breadboards.   Schmartboard has released two new SMT to DIP adapters that use the patented "ez" technology, which makes soldering the surface mount component simple.  As with all "ez" boards, SchmartBoard is the only company with a patented solution for easily soldering of surface mount parts.

“We have hit a real need with this line,” says Neal Greenberg, SchmartBoard’s VP of Sales and Marketing.  “This has been our fastest growing family of products in the few months that we have been marketing it.  The reason is that many users are in a quandary because they still need to use a breadboard and in many cases and only surface mount components are available. No other company has a solution to easily solder components such as QFN and DFN, so there has not been a cost-effective, usable solution until now.”

The two new boards are the first released that support DFN devices.  Part number 204-0021-01 gives you the ability to use two 8 lead, .5mm pitched DFN components.  Part 204-0022-01 supports two 10 lead, .5mm pitched DFN components.

The suggested retail on each of these new products is $6.00

Schmartboard plans to release new products for this family over the next year until all of the most popular QFN and DFN chip package sizes are supported for breadboard use.

SchmartBoard announces a line of 6 regulated power modules

SchmartBoard today announced the launch of six useful internal voltage regulated power SchmartModules, which is designed to offer a quick, easy and inexpensive option for users to drive up their circuits.

SchmartBoards pair and called "electronic circuit building blocks". The purpose of Schmartboard's prototyping systems are for users to easily solder components SchmartBoards with our "ez" technology, which makes soldering a surface mount component easily.  When possible, connect SchmartModules, which are popular functional circuit blocks, even faster and easier.

SchmartBoard assigned important circuit Prototyping Patent

Fremont, CA-SchmartBoard announced today that patent,228 was granted to 7,511 Schmartboard's "EZ" technique for hand soldering Surface Mount Technology (SMT) electronic components.

In summary, the patent covers a modification of the circuit board technology.  A normal printed circuit board (PCB) consists of two main components on the surface.  Solder mask, is the colored areas, and the electronic pads, which is the metallic areas.  The electronic pads are on top of the solder mask, and that's where the electronic components are placed.  This system works well when circuits are mass-produced with precise robotic pick and place equipment.  However, not the average engineer when circuits need to be hand soldered for projects or prototypes, skill or expertise to do it. Alternatively, it is very expensive to have a custom PCB fabricated and parts on it.

Schmartboards new patent requires solder mask being much higher than pillows.  The pads are also "pre tinned" with solder.  What this amendment does is to electronic components for easy hand-placed by almost anyone.  Because the solder already on pillows, a user simply takes a soldering iron and the solder melts component lead or go boards through a new flow furnace.  This technology makes it almost impossible to create shorts or bridges when the soldering SMT components.

"Our technology is utilized by three primary user groups: industry, education, and hobbyists," says Neal Greenberg, Schmartboard's VP of sales and marketing.  "It has saved a lot of time and money for the industry, SMT technology to be used in education, and has made it possible for amateurs to use current component technologies.  Schmartboards website has videos of SMT components are soldered and offers a free demo Board with chip for users to try before they buy.  Standard SchmartBoards with "ez" technology has a suggested retail price of $ 9.99 and is available through the Schmartboards website and leading electronic retailer. "

SchmartBoard Releases Family for SMT Connectors

These boards support SMT connectors from companies such as Hirose, Molex, Samtec and Tyco and pitches of .4mm, .5mm, 8mm, 1.0mm and 1.27mm.  They also use our patented SchmartBoard|ez technology which is our solution for hand soldering surface-mount components. After some extensive R&D we learned that two skills are needed to hand-solder surface mount components. First, the ability to place the components on the solder pads and keep them in place to solder.  Second is the ability to solder such small areas without creating short circuits on the chip legs. SchmartBoard|ez resolves both issues so that virtually anyone can now use surface mount components.

“Users have been asking us to support SMT connectors for some time now,” said Neal Greenberg, Schmartboard’s VP of sales and marketing.  “In fact, users have been taking our SOIC boards and cutting them in half to support SMT connectors and LCD panels.  With these new boards we now support the vast majority of what people have been requesting, and we hope to work closely with the connector manufacturers to fill in other areas of need.”

The suggested retail for the boards is $9.99 each or 10 packs for $80.00.

SchmartBoard Makes Hand-Soldering Though-Hole Easy

SchmartBoard today released a new product that makes it simple to hand solder through-hole components.  This product embraces SchmartBoard’s mission statement of “Electronics for Everyone”

Students and hobbyists who are involved in electronics must eventually learn to hand solder components, which is often difficult, messy and frustrating.  Even for those with experience, tight spaces can create a nightmare scenario.  With the advent of SchmartSolder, anyone can now hand solder through-hole components no matter how close together they are.  In addition, the soldering will look like it has been preformed by a pro.

SchmartSolder are loops of solder produced in just the right diameter to fit over the component leads.  One places the solder over the lead and flush to the circuit board and simply touches the soldering iron to the SchmartSolder.  The SchmartSolder quickly melts and flows into the hole.  The result is a perfect, neatly soldered component with no cold solder joints or other flaws.  A video showing the use of the product is viewable at: http://www.schmartboard.com/index.asp?page=resources_howto

“SchmartSolder is just another step in our mission to make ‘Electronics for Everyone’”. says SchmartBoard’s VP of Sales & Marketing, Neal Greenberg.  “We previously perfected hand soldering of surface mount components with SchmartBoard|ez and with the addition of this new product, almost every type of electronic component on the market can be easily and flawless hand soldered.  Our next step is to make reading electronic schematics easy for everyone which we will begin with the the launch of www.solderbynumbers.com on Sept. 8.”

The suggested retail price on SchmartSolder is $5.00 for 50 pieces and the product is available on SchmartBoard’s website and through SchmartBoard’s distributors.

SchmartBoard Awarded Key Circuit Prototyping Patent

SchmartBoard announced today that patent 7,511,228 has been granted for SchmartBoard’s “EZ” technology for hand soldering Surface Mount Technology (SMT) electronic components.

In summary, the patent covers a modification of circuit board technology.  A normal Printed Circuit Board (PCB) consists of two main components on the surface.  The solder mask, are the colored areas, and the electronic pads, which are the metallic areas.  The electronic pads are on top of the solder mask, and this is where the electronic components are placed.  This system works great when circuits are mass-produced using precise robotic pick and place technology.  However, when circuits need to be hand soldered for projects or prototyping, the average engineer does not have the dexterity or expertise to do it. Alternatively, it is very expensive to have a custom PCB fabricated and parts assembled on it.

SchmartBoard’s new patent calls for the solder mask to be much higher than the pads.  Additionally the pads are “pre-tinned” with solder.  What this modification does is allow the electronic components to easily be hand placed by virtually anyone.  Because the solder is already on the pads, a user simply takes a soldering iron and melts the solder to the component leads or runs the boards through a re-flow oven.  This technology makes it virtually impossible to create shorts or bridges when hand soldering SMT components.

“Our technology is utilized by three main user groups: industry, education and hobbyists,”  says Neal Greenberg, SchmartBoard’s VP sales and marketing.  “It has saved significant time and money for industry, allowed SMT technology to be used in education, and has made it possible for hobbyists to use current component technology.  SchmartBoard’s website has videos of SMT parts being soldered and offers a free demo board with chip for users to try for themselves before purchasing.  Standard SchmartBoards with “ez” technology have a suggested retail price of $9.99 and are available through SchmartBoard’s website and leading electronic distributors.”

SchmartBoard Announces a Line of 6 Regulated Power Modules

SchmartBoard announced today the release of six useful single voltage regulated power SchmartModules, which are designed to offer a quick, easy and inexpensive option for users to power up their circuits.

SchmartBoards connect together and are called “Electronic Circuit Building Blocks”. The purpose of SchmartBoard’s prototyping system is for users to easily hand solder components onto SchmartBoards using our “ez” technology, which makes soldering any surface mount component easy.  When possible, connecting SchmartModules, which are popular functional circuit blocks, is even quicker and easier.

“SchmartBoard is similar in approach to software development, but for electronic circuit prototyping,” says Neal Greenberg, SchmartBoards VP of sales and marketing.  “In software, one may design the core code and add popular software blocks around it rather than rewriting code that already exists.  These SchmartModules are the equivalent of software blocks that an engineer would source and glue to his code. Why redesign or solder a popular circuit block such as RS232 for instance?  We now have power and I/O SchmartModules and will be adding many more modules over the coming months.”

The Regulated Power Modules come in 1.5, 1.8, 2.5, 3.3, 5 and 9 volts.  The suggested retail price for each is $15.

SchmartBoard Announces Two New Contests

SchmartBoard, a company that makes prototyping electronic circuits easier, has announced contests to coincide with the release of two new products for the embedded electronics market.

The first contest is for the newly announced SchmartBoard 8 Bit PIC Microcontroller Development Board.  This product allows designers to use any of the 116 8 Bit MicroChip PICâ Microcontrollers that are in an SOIC or SOP chip package.  The board is fully populated except for the PICâ , which is hand soldered by the user using SchmartBoard’s “ez” technology, which makes hand soldering SMT(surface mount) components easy and flawless.  The contestants also name a friend on the contest entry, and if the contestant wins, both he/she and the friend win.

The second contest is for the new Parallax Propellerâ SchmartModule.  This is a fully populated development board that allows the user to solder the Propellerâ chip, again using SchmartBoard’s “ez solder” technology.  This contest also allows the contestant to name a friend, who will also win, if the contestant wins. Winners for both contests are chosen each month.  One only has to register once per contest to be eligible for the full length of the promotion.   US and international users are eligible. These contests can be entered at:  http://www.schmartboard.com/index.asp?page=schmartland_ev...
